If the candidate fails to learn the primary quantity plate accurately, then the examiner asks the candidate to read a second quantity plate. If the candidate can not appropriately read the second number plate, then the examiner should use a tape measure to measure the proper distance between the candidate and a 3rd number plate. If the candidate cannot read the third number plate, then the candidate is deemed to have failed and the test will not continue. The DVLA will be knowledgeable and the candidate's provisional licence might be revoked. This part of the speculation test is performed on a computer system.
